Chariots of the Gods
Chariots of the Gods? - Unsolved Mysteries of the Past, is a book written in 1968 by Erich Von Däniken. The theories that are displayed in this book evolve around the theme that ancient civilisations were visited by aliens and space travellers who were welcomed by the native people and worshipped as gods.
One of the main themes for this belief was that some ancient civilisations had produced items that were far beyond their technological means for example the pyramids in Egypt, stone henge in the U.K. and the Nazca lines of Peru. It is said that the aliens had either created these mystical features themselves or showed the natives with the necessary tools how to create such vast and impressive technological advances from their time period.
Erich Von Däniken believed that the Nazca lines of Peru were the remains of an alien lifeform that had used the markings as a guide for a landing base in Peru. He believed that the markings and lines were from the aliens that had used the airport to visit earth. The Nazca lines are believed to be such a great techological feat becasue they were created around 200BC ad AD700 with depictions of monkeys, birds, spiders, hummingbirds, lizards and fish all present on the desert floor. With some of the lines being over six miles in length it is hard to believe that the people of Nazca had the ability to create these lines as they would not have been able to view the work they were creating as it is unlikely that they would of been able to build a flying vessel to monitor the construction of the lines they were creating. Therefore the theory of Erich Von Däniken could be a fitting reason on how the Nazca lines were created.
